Immigrant Son: The Story of John D. Mezzogiorno

Spellbinding film
Immigrant Son is a spellbinding story about one man's search for his Italian roots. Frank Cappiello does a masterful job of capturing the true essence of the immigrant experience.

this movie was about my family!
I was touched and amazed to watch pictures and stories of my relatives, from my great grandfathers journey here to his children that were my grandmother and aunts and uncles.simply beautiful! To my cousins who wrote this,i am greatful and so,so proud of or heritage.Thank you justin and frank.xo

Proud of my heritage
As a second generation Italian American who grew up in the Bronx, Immigrant Son is another thread in the story of my heritage. The movie offers a wonderful perspective on the flight from Italy in the late 1800's and early 1900's of which my grandparents were one of millions who came here, not from Basilicata but from Sicily. The places and names may be different, but the plight was the same...escape starvation and poverty and make a better life for their children and those who came after. God Bless them all for their courage and perseverance. I also highly recommend the book "Under the Southern Sun" by Paul Paolicelli. For me it put into perspective something i never thought of...the loss on the other side....what it meant to Italy to lose a whole generation...of laborers and artistic talent, that became some of America's most famous and accomplished celebrities, scientists and politicians.
